چکیده

Exact one-way re-formulations of the Helmholtz equation are useful for waveg-uide problems, since the resulting equations can be eeciently solved as \initial" value problems by range marching methods. Some numerical methods for these re-formulations are reviewed in this paper. This includes a switched method that avoids the singularities of the operators and the large range step methods that give exact solutions for range independent regions and allow large range steps for weakly range dependent regions. For waveguides with curved bottoms, a method based on a local orthogonal transformation is described. As an interesting application, the scattering problem of periodic waveguides is considered.

One - way Large Range Step Methods forHelmholtz

A useful approach for long range computation of the Helmholtz equation in a waveguide is to re-formulate it as the operator diierential Riccati equation for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map. For waveguides with slow range dependence, the piecewise range independent approximation is used to derive a second order range stepping method for this one-way re-formulation. The range marching formulas...

Perfectly matched layer for acoustic waveguide modeling — benchmark calculations and perturbation analysis

The perfectly matched layer (PML) is a widely used technique for truncating unbounded domains in numerical simulations of wave propagation problems. In this paper, the PML technique is used with a standard one-way model to solve a benchmark problem for underwater acoustics modeling. Accurate solutions are obtained with a PML layer with a thickness of only a quarter of the wavelength. The effect...

A Local Orthogonal Transform for Acoustic Waveguides with an Internal Interface

A numerical method is developed for solving the two dimensional Helmholtz equation in a two layer region bounded by a flat top, a flat bottom and a curved interface. A local orthogonal transform is used to flatten the curved interface of the waveguide. The one-way re-formulation based on the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map is then used to reduce the boundary value problem to an initial value pro...

Acoustic confinement and waveguiding with a line-defect structure in phononic crystal slabs

We present a new way of forming phononic crystal waveguides by coupling a series of line-defect resonators. The dispersion proprieties of these coupled resonator acoustic waveguides ͑CRAW͒ can be engineered by using their geometrical parameters. We show that single-mode guiding over a large bandwidth is possible in CRAW formed in a honeycomb-lattice phononic crystal slab of holes in zinc oxide. I...

Topological Phononic Crystals with One-Way Elastic Edge Waves.

We report a new type of phononic crystals with topologically nontrivial band gaps for both longitudinal and transverse polarizations, resulting in protected one-way elastic edge waves. In our design, gyroscopic inertial effects are used to break the time-reversal symmetry and realize the phononic analogue of the electronic quantum (anomalous) Hall effect. We investigate the response of both hex...
